The Industrial Chemical industry makes chemical products that are used by other industries to make plastics, paint, explosives, and thousands of other products. The industry makes chemical products from a variety of raw materials, including coal, oil, plants, salts, and minerals. Chemical products are also used to manufacture steel, glass, detergents, cosmetics, drugs, and film.

Canadian equivalent of the US FDA. Health Canada is a department within the Canadian government that is responsible for public health.

Agency within the US Department of Health and Human Services responsible for protecting and promoting public health by supervising and regulating food safety, tobacco products, dietary supplements, prescription and over-the-counter medications, vaccines, biopharmaceuticals, blood transfusions, medical devices, electromagnetic radiation emitting devices, and veterinary products.

Agency within the US Federal government which is responsible for protecting the environment and human health by both writing and enforcing regulations based on laws passed by Congress.

Consumer Products cover a broad range of products including consumer durables, non-durables and soft goods. Included in this industry in merchandise for daily use ordinarily bought by individuals or households for private consumption. The industry includes companies that design, manufacture and/or market cleaning products, household products, personal care products and food among others.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is mandated by Congress to maintain a publicly available, searchable database including adverse events allegedly caused by consumer products, and other products or substances regulated by the Commission.

A client liaison is assigned to every client. The client liaison serves as the primary contact for the client for any day-to day issues related to case management, case documentation, and technology issues. Additionally, the client liaison is responsible for notifying the client of any pertinent cases per SafetyCall’s Client Notification Guidelines.

Adverse effects which are unrelated to the use of the product are sometimes referred to as, “background noise,” loosely defined as alternative causes, reasons, concomitant medical conditions/illnesses or other contributing factors unrelated to product use.

Agricultural Chemicals, or “Ag-Chem,” is a generic germ for the various chemical products used in agriculture. In most cases, agrichemical refers to the broad range of pesticides, including insecticides, herbicides, and fungicides.

Any untoward medical occurrence in a patient that is associated with the use of a product. An adverse event does not necessarily mean that a causal relationship has been established between the event and the product.
