SafetyCall/ Pet Poison Helpline is excited to share that we have entered into a formal affiliation agreement with the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine (UMN CVM). Our collaborative relationship with the UMN CVM spans over several decades during which we have remained focused on our mutual commitment to graduate day-one-ready veterinarians.
SafetyCall/Pet Poison Helpline helps to prepare the UMN CVM graduates with additional education opportunities in Toxicology. We do this through externships and the veterinary toxicology course taught by our team members!
The recognition in the form of a formal affiliation is important and acknowledges the mutual respect and beneficial relationship that we have with UMN CVM. The affiliation also presents new opportunities and lays out a path for us to continuously strengthen our relationship.
Here are other examples of our work with UMN CVM:
- We have employed multiple CVM students for 15+ years and hosted many more as externs. A story about our student employee was featured in CVM’s 2021 Spring issues of Profiles.
- Our Director of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Lynn Hovda, and our Senior Director of Veterinary Services, Dr. Ahna Brutlag, have served as adjunct faculty for more than 10 years and team-teach the veterinary toxicology course. Dr. Hovda also teaches in several population medicine courses.
- We funded a joint Emergency and Critical Care (ECC) residency and supported additional residents by providing PPH data for analysis and co-publication.
- Our veterinarians have given numerous lunchtime lectures to CVM student groups and have participated in CVM admissions interviews for the past 7 years.
As a company, we are honored to be formally affiliated with the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine and support the many students, faculty, and patients that walk through their doors each and every day.
